Skilled Independent (subclass 189) visa
This visa is for skilled workers who are can live and work permanently anywhere in Australia.
Applications are by invitation only. To be invited to apply, a person must:
- Be able to score at least 60 on the points test.
- Submit an Expression of Interest
- Have an occupation that is on the relevant skilled occupation list
- Have a suitable skills assessment for that occupation
- Be less than 50 years of age when the invitation is issued
- Have at least competent English
Privileges
This visa allows you and your accompanying family members to:
- Live and work permanently in Australia
- Study in Australia
- Enroll in Medicare, Australia scheme for health-related care and expenses
- Access certain social security payments
- Apply for Australian citizenship
- Sponsor family members for permanent residence
Skilled - Nominated (subclass 190) visa
This visa is for skilled workers who are nominated by a state or territory. Person can live and work permanently anywhere in Australia.
Obligation: - Visa holder has to stay in the nominated state or territory for at least two years
Applications are by invitation only. To be invited to apply, a person must:
- Be able to score at least 60 on the points test.
- Submit an expression of interest and be nominated
- Have an occupation that is on the relevant skilled occupation list
- Have a suitable skills assessment for that occupation
- Be less than 50 years of age when the invitation is issued
- Have at least competent English

- Study in Australia

Skilled - Nominated or Sponsored (Provisional) (subclass 489) visa
This visa is for skilled workers who are nominated by a state or territory or sponsored by an eligible relative living in a designated area in Australia. The visa is valid for four years.
Obligation: - Visa holder has to stay in the nominated state or territory for at least two years
Applications are by invitation only. To be invited to apply, a person must:
- Be able to score at least 60 on the points test.
- Submit an Expression of Interest and be nominated or sponsored
- Have an occupation that is on the relevant skilled occupation list
- Have a suitable skills assessment for that occupation
- Be less than 50 years of age when the invitation is issued
- Have at least competent English
Privileges
This visa allows you and your dependants to:
- Temporarily live and work in a designated regional area in Australia
- Study in a specified regional area of Australia
- Travel in and out of Australia while the visa is valid
- Apply for permanent residence through the Skilled Regional (Residence) visa (subclass 887) after certain conditions has been met.
