Parent (Migrant) Visa (Subclass 103)

This visa allows parents to migrate permanently to Australia to join their children who is an Australian citizen, permanent resident or an eligible New Zealand citizen
This visa requires that you be sponsored by your child, or another eligible sponsor, in Australia.
If you are a parent of a child or stepchild who, at the time the visa application is lodged, is 'settled' and either an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen. This means your child must have been lawfully resident in Australia for a reasonable period, normally two years, although a shorter period can be considered for Australian citizen children if there are compelling and compassionate circumstances.
In addition you must be able to demonstrate one of the following:

  • At least half of your children are Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents or eligible New Zealand citizens who are usually resident in Australia
  • You have more children living in Australia as Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents or eligible New Zealand citizens than in any other country.

Your partner and other dependent family members may be included in your application provided they satisfy certain requirements.
You can also:

  • Work and study in Australia
  • Receive subsidised healthcare through Medicare and the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS)
  • Access certain social security payments (subject to waiting periods)
  • Be eligible to apply for Australian citizenship (subject to the residency eligibility criteria)
  • Sponsor people for permanent residence (subject to waiting periods).

Contributory Parent (Migrant) Visa (Subclass 143)

Contributory Parent (Temporary) Visa (Subclass 173)

This 2 year visa is for parents who are outside of Australia, children are residing in Australia, to enter and live in Australia. You cannot extend or renew this visa.
If the visa is granted and you want to stay in Australia permanently you must apply for a permanent visa before this temporary visa expires
Once you are in Australia, you can only apply for one of the following substantive visas:

  • Contributory Parent (Migrant) visa (subclass 143)
  • Protection visa (permanent) visa
  • Medical Treatment (temporary) visa.

  • Have access to Australia’s medical expenses and hospital care assistance scheme, medicare
  • Work in Australia
  • Study, but you are not eligible to apply for austudy.

Aged Parent (Residence) Visa (Subclass 804)

This visa allows aged parents to remain in Australia permanently, with their children who are living in Australia as an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen..
This visa requires that you be sponsored by your child, or another eligible sponsor, in Australia.
If you are a parent of a child or stepchild who, at the time the visa application is lodged, is 'settled' and either an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen. This means your child must have been lawfully resident in Australia for a reasonable period, normally two years, although a shorter period can be considered for Australian citizen children if there are compelling and compassionate circumstances.

Contributory Aged Parent (Residence) Visa (from Subclass 884 to Subclass 864)

This visa allows aged parents to remain in Australia permanently with their children who are living in Australia. You must be sponsored by your child, or another eligible sponsor in Australia.
This visa is for you if you hold a Contributory Aged Parent (Temporary) visa (subclass 884) and want to apply for a permanent visa Contributory Aged Parent (Migrant) visa (subclass 864).
Your partner and other family members may be included in your application if they meet certain requirements.
This visa allows you, your accompanying partner and dependent family members to live as permanent residents in Australia.
If you are a parent of a child or stepchild who, at the time the visa application is lodged, is 'settled' and either an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen. In addition you must be able to demonstrate one of the following:

  • At least half of your children are Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents or eligible New Zealand citizens who are usually resident in Australia
  • You have more children living in Australia as Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents or eligible New Zealand citizens than in any other country.69*

This visa allows you, your accompanying partner and dependent family members to live as permanent residents in Australia.
